Just One More Chapter

Just One More Chapter

Coronavirus has forced all of us to change our lives overnight. Plans have been put on hold, work looks completely different, and everyday activities such as shopping are now done only when absolutely required. For me, the hardest part of this pandemic is the social isolation. Being forced to stay home, when our nature is to socialize and enjoy life with others around us. I don’t want to come across as complaining – I am completely grateful that my family and friends are all safe and well. I will be forever grateful to those who work the front lines for us, they truly are deserving hero’s in my books.

I am very fortunate to have my daughter and her family living directly across the street. It’s incredibly wonderful to be able to just walk across the road to see my 3 beautiful grandchildren any day of the week. I often take advantage of this opportunity and love to read with them at bedtime. But social distancing called for an immediate halt to that luxury. They are so close, yet so far now! How I yearn for those little hugs once again! We are very lucky that we aren’t separated by miles, and I’m often found at their front bay window waving and blowing kisses.

My granddaughter Madison and I have been reading Harry Potter for the last 4 years. When an illustrated version of the series came out, I jumped on it as an excellent way to engage Maddy in these wonderful adventures. She was hooked right from the start, and we’re now on the 4th book “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”. I can’t say enough about these illustrated versions. The pictures are simply spectacular.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Maddy and I have always read together, side by side. In our new state of being (COVID-19), this is no longer possible. When I asked Maddy if she’d like to keep reading via a video call, she readily agreed, and we now read via video link every night. I really treasure these times together. The layout at the top of this post was my attempt to document how we’ve adapted to our surroundings and found a way to carry on.

The papers for this project came from Harry Potter lines from Moxxie and Reminisce. The book cut file is by Paige Evans and is called “Open Book”. I loved that it provided an opportunity to journal directly on the “pages”. The title cut file – Just One More Chapter – is part of a larger cut file from Cut to You called “Book Lover”. You can find it here: https://createdbygwen.com.au/product/book-lover-cut-file/. The stickers used came from 2 separate Harry Potter sticker sheets by Paper House and Scrapbook Customs.

Wishing you all continued good health and happy reading as we weather this storm together.

Beautiful Dreamer

Bo Bunny has a dreamy line of papers called Beautiful Dreamer. The colour scheme is soft, romantic and well, dreamy! The possibilities for scrapbooking and card making are endless with this line. This kit contains 3 single page layouts, and one double page layout. While the lure of riding a bike is simply not my thing (ask some of my best friends!), the bicycle patterned paper simply called my name immediately. The soft purple and green tones are warm and inviting. To raise the bar on this layout, I’ve added flowers and pearls to the bike basket and wrapped the title around the wheel of the bike. This layout was the perfect background to a recent photo of my husband and I.  I’m tickled with the overall result.

Enjoy the Ride with picture

The second layout is titled “Spread Your Wings and FLY”. The backdrop for this layout is the Illusion patterned paper. Those birds and books are so interesting and visually appealing. I chose to use pictures of my granddaughter Maddy as she prepared for her final ballet recital in June. She took her set of wings, and I was lucky enough to capture a couple of quick photos before she changed her mind and took them off before the recital began. With or without wings, she made a very sweet ballerina. I love the soft feel this layout creates.

Spread Your Wings with pictures

The last single layout is titled Beautiful Dreamer and uses the patterned paper by the same name. Green and burgundy pearls, brads, gold accents and organza ribbon all add to create a light and airy feel.

The final 2 page layout in this kit uses two coordinating patterned papers. You will find so many things to embellish this kit with, including a full sticker page, chipboard package,  die cut package and a 12″ x 12″ letter and number sticker sheet by Bella BLVD. For this layout, I decided to highlight our visit to the Eiffel Tower, a dream I never imagined would come true! Paris is a wonderfully romantic city, and the perfect setting for this layout.

I hope this kit inspires you to scrapbook. It’s a perfect combination for the romantic, travel or precious moments in your life. This kit will be available soon at the Younique Scrapbook store in Mount Forest.

Happy Scrappin’

Happy Birthday Margie!

Some people are extra special. Margie Dinsmore is one of those people. Margie’s played an important part in our family for…well, forever! Margie is a RN who cared for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. Not an easy job. Margie was my Grandmother’s friend. She babysat my Dad and his siblings, myself and my siblings, my children and many, many more. Not an easy job!

Margie volunteered her time over years and years to the benefit of many. She walks everywhere, choosing her feet over transportation whenever she can. She still lives on her own, as independent as she can be.

Today we celebrate her 101st Birthday! She remains a kind, selfless, loving woman. Wherever you are today, raise a glass to a remarkable woman who sets a high example of making a difference in other people’s lives.

Happy Birthday Margie, we LOVE YOU!

This Guy

I’m so excited to share this kit with you! PHOTOPLAY’s “This Guy” line of papers and embellishments is the perfect lineup to showcase that special man in your life. Whether it be your husband, father, son, uncle,  or grandfather, this paper lineup will give you the masculine feel you need to highlight the men who mean so much to you.

Those of you who know me, know that I am extremely proud of our son Sean. Sean is a Corporal in the Army and he is posted in Edmonton. He is passionate about his career choice and his commitment to our country. What more could a Mom ask for? His commitment has meant sacrifices for all of us, but he serves with pride and focus.

Naturally, when I received the “This Guy” lineup of products, it was an easy decision to build my layouts featuring Sean. This double page layout focuses on the patterned papers in the line. Additions to this page include some stickers, a masculine washi tape and smart black enamel embellishments.

My Hero with Pictures

These pictures are a compilation of photos taken during our recent trip to visit Sean and his wonderful girlfriend Megan. Thank you for putting others before yourself everyday Sean. You will always be “My Hero”.

The “Play Hard” layout incorporates additional patterned papers, stickers and hand stitching to add dimension. When I saw these two stickers, I instantly knew what picture I would use! I must say, there are advantages to no longer doing your kids laundry!! What endurance and determination. I treasure another picture of Sean crossing the finish line of the Spartan Race, laughing and smiling. What an accomplishment!

You Light up My Life with Pictures

The last layout is simple, yet makes a clear statement. One of the many things I love so much about Sean, is that he makes me laugh every single time we talk. These layouts are a treasure to me.

When you complete your kit, you’ll find you have plenty of paper and stickers left over to create several masculine cards. The opportunities are as limitless as your imagination.

Who do you treasure and wish to showcase in your scrapbooks? With Father’s Day quickly approaching, you’ll find this is a great kit to highlight the special men in our lives. Look for this kit soon at Younique Country Retreat and Too Younique.

Happy Scrappin’!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all my female friends and family out there! It’s a day to feel special and proud of our accomplishments for sure. I will always be thankful for the kind, loving and generous Mom I had. She guided and mentored me to be the woman I am today. She would be proud of the family that continues to grow and enjoy life’s journey in her memory. Miss you dearly Mom,

I am so lucky to call myself Mom to two beautiful children. I am blessed daily to live across the street from my daughter. She is an AMAZING Mom and daycare provider. Together with her hubby Jeff, they are raising two incredibly loving grandchildren. Maddy and Owen, being your Nana is the best thing ever! This layout was based on a Mother’s Day picture from last year. Still brings smiles to my face everytime I look at it! Love you so much Lindsay!

Our son lives out West. He is posted to Edmonton in the military. Sean, not a day goes by that I don’t say thanks for your commitment and service to our country. You listened to me growing up and followed my guidance when I told you to follow your passion in life! I am grateful for all you bring to our lives, and proud of the life you are building with Megan. This layout is one of several that feature Sean in a new kit that will arrive shortly at Younique.

You can see I have much to smile about today and everyday! My heart is bursting with love for you all.

Fun in the Sun

It’s the last day of April and I’m gearing up for lots of “Fun in the Sun” this summer! Summer is a special time for us. A chance to return to our family cottage on the Severn River. I was so fortunate to spend my summers growing up on the Severn, and also fortunate to let my children do the same. Now I am blessed to share that experience with my grandchildren. There’s really nothing quite like reliving it through the eyes of a child!

Bella BLVD’s “Fresh Market” papers are an excellent backdrop to showcasing the highlights of our last summer up north. Our cottage is boat access only, and Maddy and Owen love to go out in the boat every single day. One of their favourite boat rides is to travel down to the marina and get ice cream. What could be better on a hot summer day?!

Fun in the Sun w Pictures

This double page layout will teach you a new technique with floss. The combination of patterned papers and die cuts, give this layout a light, airy, and fun feel. The kit makes use of many stickers, including many border stickers and lettering.

Today is a Happy Day w Pictures

“Today is a Happy Day” pretty much sums it all up. Two playful die cut scalloped borders and colourful floss help compliment the feel of this page. This just makes me want to go out and play!

Sweet Summer w Pictures

The last page in this kit continues to emphasize having fun outdoors. Paper and sticker borders are utilized once again, including the use of the stems for the pinwheels. Pinwheels just call you to come and play outside – so take some time to document your “fun in the sun”, and enjoy the results for years to come!

This kit and more are available at Younique and Too Younique! Watch out for more kits coming soon. Lots of great things in the works!
